I am about to get a fiberglass Jon Boat, the problem though is it needs some repair work done. I have not seen this boat yet, I am picking it up tomorrow. The current owner said that is has a small crack in the hull, is this a difficult DIY repair? Or should I take it to a Boat yard and get the work done? If so how much would you think it would cost? I know that this is a pretty vague question since I don't have too much info yet. After I pick it up tomorrow, I should be able to provide better information about the crack. Any help would be appreciated.

Depends on "where" the crack is? If it's in a corner, that is a problem. Baring anything actually hitting and creating physical damage that needs to be addressed, the issue of a hull developing a crack due to flex in the initial design is of major concern. You need to determine what caused the crack in the 1st place.

Plenty of websites for glass works instructions. Clean, Clean, Clean!!! That's the main rule. And always prep an area 1/3 larger than the area that you are trying to fix. The mat needs something to bond to that is not in the area of the damage. As the glass will always flex at some point, this is also very important.

Mike thanks for the help. But it looks as though I wont need any since it was not even a Jon Boat. It was actually a Dingy!!! And a extremly worn out one at that! Well it was a free offer so no loss on my part, but the "one crack" mysteriously turned into about 20, so needless to say this is not what i was expecting. I guess I am just gonna have to keep my eye out for something else. Regardless, thanks for the help again.
